Happy Chinese New Year to all of you.
I was evacuated by US Embassy from Cairo yesterday and arrived in Houston today. My business trip was cut short because it was not safe to be in Egypt since Friday last week. I could not find any flight out of Egypt for two days, both times my flights out of Egypt were cancelled or disappeared. I was at Cairo airport for two days without real food (eating junk food such as candy bar and water only). I am very glad to be home alive.
I thought I was hired back by my company as a control Systems Expert, but end as Control System Engineering (CSE) Lead. I will be responsible for the control systems/Instrumentation for the entire refinery. We have people all over the world in Houston (core engineering group), Seoul (Korea), Madrid (Spain), Milan (Italy), Cairo (Egypt), Singapore, Saudi Arabia, etc. It is a challenge to make all design consistent among all contractors. I also spend a lot of my time supervising and hiring CS engineers. But as a retiree, I can quit any time if I do not like my job.
