An English man once said to me, " I am here in the world only for a short stay, I will go home finally in the heaven." How do you like his idea? There is no real retirement while we are still alive, I think. We only have different jobs to do, and have another career.
The fact is: The heart cannot be isolated from the outside world, and it should not be. A paralyzed person may have peace in mind, but he will have no feeling any more about the world in the long run. He is dead already because only a dead man can have no feeling about the world. He is useless to the world too because he is not going to improve the world. And a world full of dead man cannot improve itself. The only direction is to fall. That's why countries of Buddhism in the world can never improve and become a miserable place to live.

我無法回應您的問題, 我不是佛教徒, 更非聖嚴的信徒. 我內人已加入佛教福智團體多年, 每周苦讀次第廣論(藏傳佛教密宗之一支, 宗喀巴所著). 但我至今尚無意做任何宗教團體之一員. 雖然我對宗教的故事覺得有趣, 包括佛教, 基督教, 印度教等, 但也僅僅如此而已. 不過” 用寧靜心擁抱世界”好像並沒有要我們置外在世界不顧, 您說是吧?
退休後, 常有台北科技大學的同事問我退休生活如何? 我就回他們說我在金錢上變得比較窮一些, 在時間上反而我變得比較富有些. 最重要的是要學會過孤獨生活而不寂寞. 如何過孤獨生活而不寂寞? 儘量去做以前想做卻抽不出時間的事; 因此我選擇水墨畫和草書玩玩, 自娛而已. 團團兄的詩藝成就已是同學皆知的事.

Hi everyone,
I was disappointed that I missed our recent reunion as I had to deal with my physical issues during that time. I will try not to miss the fun and joy at the next one in Taichung 2012.
Even though I was not with you at the reunion last year, I am grateful for all the personal time and great effort that you guys ( a long list ) have put up with --- not only getting everyone together for the reunion but also the photos and directory....etc., I am sure that it has not been easy.
Please forgive me for being frank , by looking at these recent photos, I relized that I am not the only one who is 40 years older but much more charming than ever. I found it is a great fun trying to match the young faces 40 years ago and the recent ones in these photos. Telling the names in these photos is somewhat more challenging. I always say to my old friends that we are getting older everyday, but we can still find amazing things to enjoy ourselves. Have a great year of 2010 ! Please keep in touch.
